This piece was installed in a room in the basement at the California Institute of the Arts, in a loop. The installation used spacial elements, rear projection, darkness and an immersive sound system to create intensity and a sense of duration. It is part of the free way series.

It’s made up of three parts, which correspond to three shots. As shots, they follow a logic of suspense, as parts they follow a logic of suspicion. We move towards identifying the object of our experience, only to find it lacks specificity and bears a message.

In a lit kitchen   is a refrigerator.

This piece was developed along three parts: firstly, as a sound piece at AT-1 Projects for the group show Volume (AtWater Village, Los Angeles), where it was installed in a former industrial kitchen. The viewer’s body was equated with the original object through the performative experience of duration and the architectural resonant phenomena, the presence of an actual deactivated industrial refrigerator in the space underlining the gap between the two; secondly, as a visual installation at the California Institute of the Arts sub-level, during art walk, with rear projection screen, room and hallway as architectural conditions for an extended audio sculpture and indeterminate duration experiences; lastly, as a single channel piece, it was reworked to be a few minutes long and shown in the REDCAT theater with surround sound, and at the Kristi Engle gallery with headphones on a hanging flat screen. This last iteration aimed at still including the ideas of materiality and performance, while allowing the inherently narrative elements associated with single channel screenings to emerge.
